October 3, 2024 – Nine DEBESMSCAT students, escorted by two faculty members, travel to Malang, Indonesia, today to join the On-Campus Phase of the Brawijaya University Faculty of Computer Science Academic and Cultural Exchange on Information Technology (FACE IT) from October 6 to 11, 2024. This marks the first time that DEBESMSCAT students participate in a semester-long graded foreign exchange program, highlighting the state college’s commitment to internationalization and becoming a globally focused university of the Province of Masbate.
From September 16 to October 4, 2024, the students took part in Online Phase 1 of the exchange program, wherein they learned the basics of data-driven decision-making and data visualization and were evaluated for their midterm grade. During the On-Campus Phase, the students will undergo cultural and educational immersion, which includes a field trip to Kayutangan Heritage, a special Batik course, and a Malang culinary experience. After the On-Campus Phase, the students shall participate in the Online Phase 2, wherein they will undergo lessons on data analysis and interpretation and AI practical applications and case studies for decision-making and will also be evaluated for their final grade.
By completing the program, the students will also earn 10 academic credits, which will reflect in their official transcripts. They are expected to integrate their learning into their academic journey at DEBESMSCAT and organize or participate in activities to cascade knowledge on information technology to the greater local student community.
The participating DEBESMSCAT students are Lancelot Grafilo, Bryan Atibagos, Freddie Alicante, Marjorie Lanada, and Jelyn Nojalda from the College of Arts and Sciences, Jamil Sanchez from the College of Engineering, Jassy Matthew Burgos from the College of Agriculture, and Natalie Jane Mae Bacolod and Franco Carlo Barruga from the College of Education. Meanwhile, the escorting faculty members are Prof. Daisy Jean Castillo of the College of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Alvin Mahawan of the College of Education.
The FACE IT Program is completely free for international students. It is organized by the Faculty of Computer Science of the Brawijaya University, one of the top ten universities of Indonesia according to the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings 2025. The faculty envisions becoming internationally competitive by contributing to the development of information technology and computer science to support industry and society through instruction, research, and community service.
