DEBESMSCAT Reports Progress on Watershed Reforestation Project and Renew the MOU with Filminera Resources Corporation

February 6, 2025 – In a continuous effort to restore and protect the environment, DEBESMSCAT President Dr. Arnel B. Millesca, together with Vice President for Administration and Finance Dr. Erwin H. Malto and Project In-Charge Dr. John Loraña, visited the Masbate Gold Project operated by Filminera Resources Corporation. They were joined by Mr. Ely James Borres, President of the Bat-Ongan Green Growers and Farmers Association, to present the Q2 2023 – Q4 2024 progress report on the DEBESMSCAT Watershed Reforestation Project.

This collaborative initiative between DEBESMSCAT, Filminera Resources Corporation, and the Bat-Ongan Green Growers and Farmers Association covers a significant portion of DEBESMSCAT-owned land in Cabitan, Mandaon, Masbate. The report highlighted key accomplishments, challenges, and ongoing efforts in reforestation and nursery establishment, reflecting the project’s significant strides in environmental conservation.

During the meeting, both DEBESMSCAT and Filminera reaffirmed their commitment to the project by renewing their Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Dr. Millesca also expressed his intention to upgrade the MOU into a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to further strengthen the responsibilities and contributions of both parties.

This renewed commitment underscores the shared vision of DEBESMSCAT and Filminera Resources Corporation in fostering sustainable environmental practices and community involvement. Ladies and gentlemen,

As the newly-installed SUC President of DEBESMSCAT, I am truly humbled and honored to assume this role. It is my goal in my 4-year term to share with you my vision and advocacy, which centers around the power of unity and collaboration, embodied by the acronym TEAM: Together Everyone Achieves More.

Leadership, to me, is not about commanding from the top or solely relying on individual brilliance. It is about recognizing the immense potential within each member of our institution and harnessing that collective strength to achieve remarkable things. True leadership requires humility, the ability to listen, learn, and empower others.

As we embark on this journey together, my aim is to cultivate an environment where every member of DEBESMSCAT feels valued, respected, and inspired to contribute their best. Together, we can achieve more than any one person could on their own.

I firmly believe that by fostering a culture of teamwork, we can overcome challenges, spark innovation, and bring about transformative change. Each of us possesses unique talents and perspectives that, when combined, form a powerful force for progress.
