August 2, 2024 – DEBESMSCAT, headed by President Arnel Millesca, secured a partnership for academic collaboration with two Taiwanese universities, Kun Shan University and Fo Guang University, on August 2, 2024, during the Conference on Sectoral Means for International Collaboration (COSMIC) 2024 held at the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture in Pili, Camarines Sur.
The Memorandum of Understanding for the academic collaboration between DEBESMSCAT and the said Taiwanese universities provided for the following areas for action: 1) faculty exchange for the purposes of delivering lectures, engaging in research, and participating in ongoing joint projects in various subject areas, 2) mutual participation of faculty in conferences, congresses, and symposia sponsored by each institution, 3) sharing of research and published materials in disciplines and areas of interest to both institutions, 4) joint projects in research and curriculum development, 5) assistance with institutional and official networking in the country of each institution and in appropriate international frameworks and organizations, 6) student exchanges language acquisition or credit-oriented purpose, and 7) general academic cooperation.
Kun Shan University is a private university in Tainan, Taiwan, that specializes in engineering, business, design, health sciences, and the humanities. It is also known for its partnerships with companies such as Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and ASE Technology Holding. The institution was represented by Dr. Shuhn-Shyurng Hou, Vice President for Academics. Meanwhile, Fo Guang University is a private university in Yilan County, Taiwan, founded by the Chinese Mahayana Buddhist monastic order Fo Guang Shan in 2000. They specialize in humanities, social sciences, management, technology, and Buddhist Studies. The university was represented by Dr. Shangmao Chen, Dean of the Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs.
