PSHS-Bicol and DEBESMSCAT Explore Tulong Dunong Collaboration for Masbate Students

September 22, 2025 — The Philippine Science High School – Bicol Region Campus (PSHS-BRC), led by Campus Director Engr. Lorvie B. Pagorogon, together with her key officials, paid a courtesy visit to Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT).

They met with DEBESMSCAT President Dr. Arnel B. Millesca and his team to discuss a potential partnership under the proposed program Tulong Dunong: “Igniting Potential, Forging Futures.”

The proposed collaboration aims to:

  • Provide enhancement classes for Grade 6 graduating students in Masbate.
  • Help prepare them for the Philippine Science High School National Competitive Examination (NCE).
  • Increase Masbate’s representation in PSHS-Bicol, where currently only about 5% of scholars come from the province.

The initiative, if realized, will focus on:

  • Strengthening students’ mathematics, science, and reasoning skills.
  • Offering accessible and structured support to bridge learning gaps.
  • Empowering more Masbateños to qualify as future PISAY scholars.

During the courtesy visit, Dr. Millesca expressed his openness to collaborate, recognizing the long-term benefits for Masbate students.
Engr. Pagorogon also shared PSHS-Bicol’s commitment to reach underrepresented areas and nurture young minds with exceptional potential.

Why This Matters for Masbate

  • Improved Opportunities: Students will gain the resources they need to compete at a national level.
  • Increased Representation: More Masbate scholars at PSHS-Bicol means more visibility and pride for the province.
  • Future Growth: Nurturing local talent in science and technology could contribute to Masbate’s educational and economic development.

While still in the planning stage, the collaboration between PSHS-Bicol and DEBESMSCAT holds great promise. If successfully implemented, Tulong Dunong could serve as a game-changer for Masbate’s young learners, giving them the chance to pursue world-class science education and achieve brighter futures.
