As part of the Gender and Development (GAD) Extension Activity of the college, a driving lesson was initiated to empower the DEBESMSCAT women and men employees which started last May 26, 2014.

According to Engr. Elmo C. Rapsing, Jr. , the driving instructor and the head of the DEBESMSCAT Motorpool, for the first batch, three participants were taught per session where they experienced the actual driving of the college car around the oval. The participants were so excited that the initial registration of 30 participants increased to 50, with greater number of women. “This is one good way of giving the chance, not only to our men but most especially to our women employees, learning a skill traditionally learned by men. This is the essence of GAD, giving equal opportunities to both men and women,” Dr. Arlene B. Carmen, the GAD Coordinator. This activity was co-sponsored by the Extension and Linkages Office with the support of its director, Dr. Danilo L. Lamela and of course, the administration. (ABC)
