
August 23, 2025 – The Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) proudly participated in the Executive Development Summit 2025, held at Savoy Hotel, Newport City, Pasay City. The summit was organized by ADREM Projects, Legal Management International, and RDCK Construction, bringing together leaders from education, business, and government to champion environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices.
With the theme “Turning Policy into Practice: Advancing ESG Integration and Sustainability Reporting in Education, Business, and Government,” the summit emphasized the urgent need for institutions to adopt ESG initiatives amid global climate challenges and growing societal expectations.
Key Highlights of the Summit
The program focused on providing participants with the tools and frameworks needed to:
- Integrate ESG policies into institutional operations
- Align with international reporting standards
- Address barriers to policy implementation
- Strengthen impact measurement and sustainability reporting
Distinguished speakers included Mr. Arnaud Peral, United Nations Resident Coordinator in the Philippines; Mr. Antonio Fernandes, First Secretary of the Embassy of Angola; ASec. Roger Masapol, Department of Education; Dir. Rachel Esther Gumtang-Remalante, Securities and Exchange Commission; and Dr. Engelbert Pasag, Panpacific University.
DEBESMSCAT’s Participation
Representing DEBESMSCAT were Engr. Nenette M. Laurio, Planning Director, and Ms. Uranus E. Cantoria, NSTP Director. Their participation underscores the institution’s commitment to green campus initiatives and sustainable development goals (SDGs).
As an output of the summit, DEBESMSCAT crafted an Action Plan that includes:
- Paperless transactions to reduce waste
- Adoption of renewable energy solutions (solar PV systems and LED lighting)
- Waste management programs, particularly in reducing plastic use
- Regulation of commodities sold in plastic bottles and similar packaging
These initiatives align with DEBESMSCAT’s preparation for the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking, Times Higher Education World University Rankings, and QS Sustainability Rankings, all of which measure how academic institutions address global ESG challenges.
A Call for Collaboration
The summit concluded with a resounding call for cross-sector collaboration to ensure that ESG policies move beyond discussions and become actionable, impactful practices. By participating in this gathering, DEBESMSCAT strengthens its role as a transformative institution dedicated to sustainability, transparency, and accountability.
