August 18, 2025 – The College of Education (CE) of the Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) marked a key milestone for its Year 2 pre-service teachers with the Pinning and Candle Lighting Ceremony themed “Igniting Futures: A Teacher’s Light Within,” held Monday at the College Covered Court.
CE Dean Dr. Raiza M. Padasas opened the program with welcome remarks and an inspirational message underscoring the formation of professional values and the lifelong duty of teachers to their learners and communities. She later delivered the Words of Confirmation, formally recognizing the candidates’ readiness to enter the field for practice teaching.
Guest speaker Dr. Rodolfo Burac, Jr., Vice President for Research, Development, Extension, Innovation, Creative Works, and Knowledge Management tackled the current situation of education in the Philippines, outlining recent threats and on-the-ground realities faced by schools and teachers nationwide. He emphasized the teacher’s role in societal transformation, the responsibilities that accompany the profession, and the values expected of every Debesian pre-service teacher—resilience, ethical service, and a learner-centered mindset.
The ceremony featured the Presentation of Pre-Service Teachers, followed by the event’s highlight: the Pinning Rite, symbolizing the students’ transition from academic preparation to professional practice. Candidates then took the Oath of Professionalism led by Jannette P. Solinap, Overall FS and PT Coordinator, committing to uphold standards of competence, integrity, and service.
A reflective moment came with the “Eternal Flame of Education: A Pre-Service Teacher’s Prayer,” renewing the cohort’s dedication to their vocation. Dr. Froilyn A. Ancajas and Mr. Arcenio D. Ocariza, FS instructors, conveyed Words of Appreciation, acknowledging faculty mentors, partner schools, and families for their support.
Charisse Verano, BSED English 4A class president, delivered Words of Gratitude on behalf of the candidates.
Ms. Marivic Llarena, CEdCSC Adviser, closed the program with remarks reinforcing student leadership and community engagement, after which the assembly joined in the singing of the DEBESMSCAT Hymn.
The annual rite affirms the College of Education’s mandate to produce practice-ready graduates equipped to meet classroom realities and to serve as lights of learning in their communities.
