August 4, 2025, marked the vibrant beginning of the Academic Summit 2025, a five-day event designed to strengthen the academic backbone of the college. The college function hall came alive as faculty members and contract of service personnel gathered for a week-long commitment to learning, collaboration, and transformation.
The morning air was filled with purpose and anticipation. A solemn prayer led by Ms. Rocel Turco set a reflective tone, followed by the proud singing of the Philippine National Anthem, conducted by Ms. Jocelyn S. Casi. The ceremonies were not merely routine—they were symbols of unity and renewed purpose.
The welcoming address was delivered by Dr. Rodolfo B. Burac Jr., Vice President for Research Development, Extension, Innovation, Creative Works and Knowledge Management. With conviction and warmth, he encouraged the faculty to embrace the summit as an opportunity to renew their collective commitment to quality education and institutional growth. His words echoed a call to action—to work hand-in-hand, to innovate, and to grow together.
Following the welcome remarks, Dr. Milagros A. Celedonio took the floor to introduce the participants, weaving together the many faces and departments that form the fabric of DEBES MSCAT.
The first session of the day, led by Dr. Nedia Sevilla, brought depth and insight into the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP). Her presentation detailed how professionals can attain academic degrees through experience and accreditation. She outlined the program’s complexities and underscored its transformative potential for lifelong learners.
As the afternoon unfolded, Mr. Allan O. Delos Reyes, Board Secretary V, presented critical updates from the Board of Trustees (BOT). His insights offered a clear picture of institutional developments, policy directions, and expectations for academic departments.
The day progressed with each college presenting their OBEdized syllabi, a collaborative effort that showcased their dedication to outcome-based education, quality assurance, and responsiveness to both internal goals and ISO consultant recommendations. It was an opportunity for shared learning, where academic forms were not just documents but reflections of each college’s commitment to standards and student success.
In a seamless integration of technology and leadership, President Dr. Arnel B. Millesca addressed the participants via Zoom. His message was clear: this summit is not merely a requirement—it is a strategic milestone. He acknowledged the efforts already made and challenged the group to elevate academic practices further.
The day drew to a close with a healthy, open forum—an invitation for questions, feedback, and shared perspectives. Dr. Elreen A. Delavin, Vice President for Academic Affairs, provided thoughtful commentary on the academic forms presented by each college. Her insights tied together the key messages of the day, affirming the importance of refining systems, aligning with quality standards, and supporting one another through academic evolution.
As the sun set on Day 1, it was clear that this summit was more than a series of sessions. It was a journey toward academic excellence, a platform for growth, and a reaffirmation of what it means to educate with purpose and precision. With four days remaining, DEBESMSCAT stands ready—not only to comply with standards but to set new ones in faculty engagement, syllabus innovation, and quality education.
