1st Teacher and Education Students’ Research Colloquium (TESREC 2024)

September 13, 2024 | The DEBESMSCAT College of Education, in collaboration with Research and Development Services, Graduate School and Student Research Services hosted the 1st Teacher and Education Students’ Research Colloquium (TESReC 2024). Themed “Building a Research Culture: Strategies for Integrating Research into Teaching and Learning,” the event aims to promote a deeper connection between academic research and practical teaching methods.

Gracing the occasion was the SUC President, Dr. Arnel B. Millesca, who delivered an inspiring message emphasizing the vital role of research in enhancing education quality. He underscored that integrating research into the classroom enriches teaching and learning, enabling educators to innovate and students to engage with the world critically.

Dr. Rodolfo B. Burac, Jr. led the event as Plenary Speaker—a distinguished academic and researcher who delivered a thought-provoking keynote address. Dr. Burac focused on strategies for fostering a research culture among educators, highlighting how research can be a transformative tool in addressing educational challenges. His talk captivated the audience with tips on enriching the research culture in the teaching and learning process.

The colloquium featured the presentation of research works by both undergraduate and graduate students. The participation of teachers and education students led to the awarding of Best Oral Presenter through the shared expertise of the panel of evaluators for Undergraduate Level, Dr. Elreen-Aguilar Delavin, Dr. Sherwin E. Balbuena, Dr. Milagros A. Celedonio, and Prof. Erdee C. Cajurao, and for the Graduate Level, Dr. Vincent M. Clores, Dr. Rodolfo B. Burac, Jr., Dr. Bernard M. Barruga, and Prof. Rocel A. Turco.

This colloquium provided a platform for students to share their research and laid the groundwork for creating a lasting research culture within the institution. By integrating research into the heart of teaching, TESREC 2024 reinforced its mission of shaping educators who are skilled in the classroom and adept at using research to drive educational innovation.
