DEBESMSCAT Promotes Sustainable Living Through Boarding House Evaluation

The Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT), through its Supreme Student Council (SSC), conducted an evaluation and monitoring of participating boarding houses under its CLEAN AND GREEN DEBESMSCAT: A Student-Centered Waste Management and Greening Policy as part of its efforts to promote environmental sustainability and responsible student living.

The initiative, in collaboration with designated evaluators from the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), Physical Plant and Facilities Management, and the National Service Training Program (NSTP), aimed to encourage proper waste management, cleanliness, and eco-friendly practices among students and boarding house owners.

Participating boarding houses were assessed based on six criteria: cleanliness and sanitation, waste management practices, sustainability and eco-friendly innovations, greening and aesthetic appeal, tenants’ awareness and participation, and documentation and compliance.

Beyond recognizing exemplary boarding houses, the initiative sought to strengthen environmental awareness, discipline, and shared responsibility among students and boarding house owners in maintaining clean, organized, and sustainable living environments.

The activity also highlighted the importance of collective action in promoting environmental stewardship and building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable DEBESMSCAT community.

Through this initiative, DEBESMSCAT continues to encourage sustainable practices beyond the classroom, fostering a culture of environmental responsibility among students and the wider campus community.
