College of Education Wins Grand Championship in DEBESMSCAT Barn Dance Competition

March 15, 2026 — The Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology (DEBESMSCAT) showcased the lively spirit of Masbateño culture as six colleges competed in the Barn Dance Competition held on March 15, 2026 at the DEBESMSCAT Field, Cabitan, Mandaon, Masbate as part of the DEBESMSCAT’s 31st Charter Celebration and 74th Founding Anniversary cum Damgolympics 2026.

Demonstrating energy, creativity, and mastery of the iconic rodeo-inspired dance tradition, the College of Education (CE) emerged as the Grand Champion, taking home the ₱20,000 cash prize. The victory marked the third championship title for the College of Education in the competition, solidifying its strong presence in the event.

The College of Engineering secured the 1st Runner-Up position and received ₱12,000, while the College of Agriculture placed 2nd Runner-Up, earning ₱8,000. The remaining participating colleges were awarded ₱5,000 consolation prizes in recognition of their enthusiastic performances and participation.

The Barn Dance Competition highlighted the vibrant and rich cultural heritage of the Rodeo Masbateño, reflecting the province’s deep connection to cattle ranching traditions and cowboy culture. Through rhythmic choreography, colorful costumes, and spirited performances, the participating colleges paid tribute to Masbate’s unique identity as the Rodeo Capital of the Philippines.

Beyond the competitive aspect, the event fostered camaraderie among student performers and reinforced DEBESMSCAT’s commitment to promoting local culture, unity, and school spirit during the ongoing campus festivities.
