A historic gathering of academic leaders and government officials takes place in Davao City, Philippines.

Dr. Arnel B. Millesca, SUC President III, graced the Investiture Ceremony of the 22nd President of the University of the Philippines at UP Mindanao in Davao City on September 14, 2023 and the UP-SUC Summit 2023 held in Dusit Thani Hotel Davao City on September 15, 2023. The event brought together prominent academic figures, government officials, and educators from across the nation to formally confer the title of the 22nd UP President to Atty. Angelo A. Jimenez.

The Investiture Ceremony, held at the UP Mindanao campus, marked a significant milestone in UP’s history as Atty. Jimenez took office as the 22nd President of the esteemed university.

The Investiture Ceremony was attended by prominent UP alumni, faculty, and students, as well as distinguished guests from the academic and political spheres. The event was a showcase of academic tradition and excellence, with the new president receiving the university mace and robe, symbolizing her authority and responsibility as the head of the institution.

The next day, Dr. Millesca and other SUC Presidents and faculty attended the UP-SUC Summit held at Dhusit Thani Hotel. One of the most significant activity in the summit is the signing of the “Mindanao Declaration on Excellence and Equity in Public Higher Education.” The declaration is the commitment of educational leaders to keep abreast to the emerging challenges and advancements brought about by the Fourth Industrial Revolution in the realm of the academe. The signing of the declaration also signifies the strengthening of collaborative efforts between SUCs and UP system and even among SUCs in enhancing the Philippine Higher Education in the modern and digital world.

As the newly-installed SUC President of DEBESMSCAT, I am truly humbled and honored to assume this role. Leadership, to me, is not about commanding from the top or solely relying on individual brilliance. It is about recognizing the immense potential within each member of our institution and harnessing that collective strength to achieve remarkable things. True leadership requires humility, the ability to listen, learn, and empower others.

As we embark on this journey together, my aim is to cultivate an environment where every member of DEBESMSCAT feels valued, respected, and inspired to contribute their best. Together, we can achieve more than any one person could on their own.

I firmly believe that by fostering a culture of teamwork, we can overcome challenges, spark innovation, and bring about transformative change. Each of us possesses unique talents and perspectives that, when combined, form a powerful force for progress.
