DEBESMSCAT students advance to Final Round of Competition of Outstanding Creativity and Exploration in Indonesia

Three DEBESMSCAT students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Education advance to the Final Round of the Competition of Outstanding Creativity and Exploration (CODE) organized by the Universitas Brawijaya (UB) in Malang, Indonesia during the On-Campus Phase of the UB Faculty of Computer Science Academic and Cultural Exchange on Information Technology (FACE IT) program held on October 6 to 11, 2024. They are Marjorie Lanada and Bryan Atibagos from the College of Arts and Sciences and Nathalie Jane Mae Bacolod from the College of Education.

In the CODE and in groups composed of three members each, the exchange students of the FACE IT Program developed project proposals on sustainable technologies that contribute in the attainment of the sustainable development goals in the ASEAN Community. The students were particularly tasked to focus on the following sub-themes: technology and information systems, renewable energy and environment, health and medicine, social culture, and economics and business.

Marjorie Lanada was part of the group that proposed the project “Enhancing Waste Segregation in Southeast Asian Countries: Developing an Automated Waste Sorting Trash Bin,” while Bryan Atibagos was part of the group that proposed the project “The Impact of Automation and AI on Employment and Economic Structures” and Nathalie Jane Bacolod, of the group that proposed that project “POWER (Prototype Outlet Wire with Emergency Response).” They will be polishing these project proposals and the final output will be presented during the CODE Final Round, whose details are to be announced soon by the organizers.

Aside from Lanada, Atibagos, and Bacolod, the rest of the DEBESMSCAT delegation at the FACE IT program also successfully participated and presented their proposals for the CODE. They are Lancelot Grafilo, Freddie Alicante, and Jelyn Nojalda also from the College of Arts and Sciences, Jamil Sanchez from the College of Engineering, Jassy Matthew Burgos from the College of Agriculture, and Franco Carlo Barruga from the College of Education.
